About this Event
What does the future hold for Scotland's inshore waters, and how can we help shape it?
Join marine biologist and conservationist Caitlin Turner for an interactive talk exploring the Scottish Government's consultation on protecting our inshore waters. Caitlin is a marine biologist and conservationist with several years of experience in marine policy and hands-on conservation efforts, from rescuing seal pups to scrubbing oysters. She is a passionate advocate for stronger marine protection, championing intersectionality in conservation and ensuring young people have a voice in shaping the future of our seas.
In this talk, we'll dive into the background on Marine Protected Areas and Priority Marine Features in Scotland's seas, before exploring the fisheries management measures being proposed in the consultation, and what they could mean for our marine wildlife and habitats, and for coastal communities. We'll discuss the ways in which you can respond to the consultation and ensure that you have your say in the future of our seas.
There'll be opportunity throughout for you to share your thoughts, feelings, and any other questions you may have, if you wish to do so. Discussion is encouraged!
Whether you're passionate about marine conservation, or have worked on the sea for generations, or enjoy swimming or snorkelling or paddleboarding, or walking your dog by the coast, or are even just simply curious about what's going on beneath the waves of our waters; everyone is welcome and no prior knowledge is needed. Scotland's seas are our shared resource, and we all have a say in how we look after them.
Note: this is talk is not affiliated with the Scottish Government or its Marine Directorate. The Marine Directorate are hosting official drop-in sessions about the consultation in various locations across Scotland and online.
