PROGRAM: The winter season officially starts on this day, December 21 at 3:50 pm. To celebrate the new season, writer-naturalist Mike Weilbacher leads an easy guided walk through the Barton Nature Preserve, where he’ll share the science, legends, and traditions of the season. Why do we deck the halls with holly or kiss under mistletoe? How did ancient cultures from Rome to Stonehenge celebrate the shortest day of the year? Along the trail, we'll also mark the exact moment of the solstice, and discover how local plants and animals adapt to the cold months ahead.PRESENTER: Mike Weilbacher, the author of Wild Philly: Explore the Amazing Nature In and Around Philadelphia, travels the region offering lectures and walks, and lectured here last fall about climate change in our region. Please meet in the Community Building on the Medford Campus.
