Celebrate the longest night and welcome the returning light.Join us at the National Botanic Garden of Wales for a magical Winter Solstice Gathering, celebrating the turning of the seasons, the beauty of the natural world, and the quiet promise of new beginnings.
Gather with us at the stone circle next to Broadwalk, as we honour the stillness of winter, connect with nature, and welcome the gradual return of the light. We’ll come together to mark this ancient seasonal turning point with simple rituals, creativity, reflection, and a little winter magic.
Our Winter Solstice activities
Burn a Yule Log
Release what no longer serves you and make space for new beginnings. Write down what you wish to let go of on small scraps of paper and offer them to the flames in a symbolic act of release and renewal.
Feed the Wildlife
Celebrate the creatures who share our winter landscape by decorating an outdoor tree with wildlife-friendly treats, such as edible garlands, fruit slices, and peanut-butter pinecones. A small act of kindness for nature during the coldest season.
Make Your Own Lantern
Create a simple paper lantern to illuminate the darkness, then take a gentle night-time walk and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the garden as evening falls.
Craft Natural Crowns
Create beautiful seasonal crowns using natural materials and plants steeped in folklore, such as holly and ivy. Explore the symbolism of these evergreen plants and their enduring connection to winter traditions.
Reflect, Release & Set Intentions
Embrace the stillness of the longest night with quiet journaling, meditation, and personal reflection. Consider what you are ready to leave behind, what you wish to nurture, and the hopes and intentions you want to carry into the returning light and the new season.
As the year reaches its darkest point, let’s pause, reconnect with the rhythms of nature, and remember that even in the deepest winter, the light will return.
Come as you are, bring your winter spirit, and join us in welcoming the turning of the wheel.

Ymunwch â ni yng Ngardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru ar gyfer Cynulliad Hudolus Heuldro’r Gaeaf, gan ddathlu troad y tymhorau, harddwch byd natur a’r addewid tawel o ddechreuadau newydd.
Dewch ynghyd â ni wrth y cylch cerrig ger Broadwalk, wrth i ni anrhydeddu llonyddwch y gaeaf, ailgysylltu â natur a chroesawu dychweliad graddol y goleuni. Byddwn yn dod ynghyd i nodi’r trobwynt tymhorol hynafol hwn drwy ddefodau syml, creadigrwydd, myfyrdod ac ychydig o hud y gaeaf.
Ein gweithgareddau Heuldro’r Gaeaf
Llosgi Boncyff Yule
Gollwng gafael ar yr hyn nad yw bellach yn gwasanaethu eich lles, a chreu lle i ddechreuadau newydd. Ysgrifennwch ar ddarnau bach o bapur yr hyn yr hoffech ei ollwng, a’u rhoi yn y fflamau fel symbol o ollwng gafael ac adnewyddu.
Bwydo’r Bywyd Gwyllt
Dathlwch y creaduriaid sy’n rhannu ein tirwedd aeafol drwy addurno coeden yn yr awyr agored â danteithion sy’n addas i fywyd gwyllt, megis garlantau bwytadwy, tafelli o ffrwythau a chonau pinwydd wedi’u gorchuddio â menyn cnau daear. Gweithred fach o garedigrwydd tuag at natur yn ystod y tymor oeraf.
Creu Eich Llusern Eich Hun
Creuwch lusern bapur syml i oleuo’r tywyllwch, yna ewch am dro hamddenol gyda’r nos a mwynhau harddwch tawel yr ardd wrth i’r hwyr ddisgyn.
Creu Coronau Naturiol
Creuwch goronau tymhorol hardd gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau naturiol a phlanhigion sy’n rhan o’n llên gwerin, megis celyn a’r eiddew. Dewch i ddarganfod symbolaeth y planhigion bytholwyrdd hyn a’u cysylltiad parhaol â thraddodiadau’r gaeaf.
Myfyrio, Gollwng Gafael a Gosod Bwriadau
Cofleidiwch lonyddwch nos hiraf y flwyddyn drwy ysgrifennu mewn dyddlyfr, myfyrio a threulio amser mewn hunanfyfyrdod tawel. Ystyriwch yr hyn rydych yn barod i’w adael ar ôl, yr hyn yr hoffech ei feithrin, a’r gobeithion a’r bwriadau yr hoffech eu cario gyda chi wrth i’r goleuni ddychwelyd ac wrth i dymor newydd ddechrau.
Wrth i’r flwyddyn gyrraedd ei phwynt tywyllaf, gadewch i ni oedi, ailgysylltu â rhythmau natur a chofio y bydd y goleuni’n dychwelyd, hyd yn oed yng nghanol tywyllwch dyfnaf y gaeaf.
Dewch fel yr ydych, dewch â’ch ysbryd gaeafol, ac ymunwch â ni i ddathlu troad y flwyddyn.
