Winter Solstice: 108 Pranams

The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year—a potent turning point where the earth pauses before inviting the return of the sun. In many spiritual traditions, this seasonal shift is celebrated with a Sadhana (spiritual practice) built around the sacred number 108.
In Eastern spiritual and yogic traditions, 108 is considered a sacred number of wholeness, cosmic completion, and spiritual awakening. It acts as a bridge between the individual practitioner and the vast architecture of the universe. There are many examples of the significance of 108 in Cosmic & Astronomical Alignment and the Energetic & Anatomical Body.
Why 108?
Solar Distance: The distance between the Earth and the Sun is approximately 108 times the diameter of the Sun.
Lunar Distance: The distance between the Earth and the Moon is approximately 108 times the diameter of the Moon.
Solar Size: The diameter of the Sun is approximately 108 times the diameter of the Earth.
The Heart Chakra: There are 108 sacred energy lines (nadis) that converge from all over the body to form the Anahata (heart) chakra.
Marma Points: There are 108 marma points (sacred intersections of prana, muscle, and bone) across the human body.
This special workshop uses the ancient ritual of 108 full-body prostrations (or modified Sun Salutations) as a rhythmic, moving meditation. Through the power of intentional repetition, we create a sanctuary of inner heat, discipline, and profound surrender.
Divided into 4 logical, guided sets with spacious pauses in between each phase represents a deeper layer of release. We will actively bow to move through heavy emotions, clear mental clutter, and reset our inner rhythms for the upcoming cycle.
This practice is open to anyone looking to honor a major life or seasonal transition. You do not need to be a seasoned yogi. The magic of a 108 ritual is found in your presence and intention, not absolute physical perfection.
We’d love for you to join us to celebrate the Winter Solstice with ritual, movement, and community!
Please bring a yoga mat, water bottle and a journal. You are welcome to bring an item for the altar.
