Finding Your Own Light:
As the Buddha lay dying, his devoted attendant, Ananda, wept in despair, fearing the spiritual darkness that would follow the death of his teacher. Noticing Ananda’s grief, Buddha made the now famous statement, “Ananda, be a lamp unto yourself.”
In Buddhism and many sacred traditions, light represents the brilliance and clarity of our intrinsic awareness. Although this luminous awareness has always been with us, and is our deepest most authentic nature, remarkably, we fail to recognize it for what it is. This is the origin of samsara.
The Buddhist path clarifies how to deepen our recognition of our primordial awareness, but also how to become increasingly sensitive to the many deceptive ways “monkey mind” seduces us to ignore this precious dimension of ourselves.
Come join us for this retreat as we deepen our path of awakening by finding our light where we least expect to find it.
This retreat will include:
- Dharma talks and group discussion
- Sitting meditation
- Experiential exercises
