About this Event

❄️ Free Winter Forest Bathing with Dr. Moire Stevenson | Mount Royal | Mindfulness Outdoors Montreal

An evening walk in the snowy woods, in the heart of the city.

Most of us spend winter evenings indoors. This one, we'll head into the woods of Mount Royal after dark, when the park goes quiet and the city lights glow on the snow.

Forest bathing, a practice that originated in Japan as shinrin-yoku, simply means spending time in the forest mindfully: walking slowly and paying attention to what you see, hear, smell, and feel. Winter offers its own version of the experience: crisp air, the crunch of snow underfoot, and long views through the bare trees.

This free, drop-in walk will be led by Dr. Moire Stevenson, licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Mindfulness Outdoors. No experience is needed, just a willingness to slow down and step outside.

Dr. Stevenson also co-facilitates our Ecotherapy Program. Feel free to bring any questions about the program, and she'll be glad to answer them.

🌲 What to expect

  • A slow, guided walk of about [45 minutes], with no particular fitness level required

  • A welcoming, inclusive space for everyone

📍 Location: Mordecai Richler Gazebo, Mount Royal Park, Montreal

🗓 When: Tuesday, January 5, 2027, 6:00–7:30 PM

💰 Cost: Free. A $10 donation is appreciated but not required. You can bring cash or send an e-transfer to [email protected].

🗣 Language: Bilingual (English and French)

🧤 Dress for the cold

We'll be moving slowly and standing still at times, so dress warmer than you think you need to. Layer up (avoid cotton next to your skin), and bring mittens (they're much warmer than gloves), a hat, and a scarf. Wear warm, waterproof boots with good grip. If the paths are icy, ice cleats are a good idea. For more tips, see Moire's guide to winter forest bathing.

Weather: In case of freezing rain, a blizzard, or unsafe icy conditions, the walk will be cancelled or rescheduled. [Check the event page on the day for updates.]

Why forest bathing on Mount Royal?

Mount Royal is more than a Montreal landmark. It's a forested park right in the city, so you don't need to travel far to spend real time among the trees. Research suggests that time in nature can lift mood and ease stress, and that practising mindfulness in natural settings may add to those benefits. Read more about why time in nature is good for your wellbeing on Moire's blog.

See you on the mountain!
