---- EXACT LOCATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON ----Winter Field Day is an annual 24-hour amateur radio exercise held on the last full weekend of January. Sponsored by the Winter Field Day Association, the event challenges ham radio operators to set up temporary, portable stations in harsh winter conditions.
While it functions as a contest where participants earn points by logging global contacts using various frequencies and modes, its primary purpose is emergency preparedness. Disasters do not wait for fair weather; by operating in freezing temperatures, snow, and ice, enthusiasts hone their technical skills and equipment resilience, ensuring they can provide vital communication infrastructure when commercial networks fail.
