❄️ Winter Field Day 2027 — Lubbock, TexasJanuary 23–24, 2027
Lubbock County Emergency Operations Center
What happens when normal communications aren't available?
Come find out at Winter Field Day 2027!
West Texas Pathfinders, SPARC TaskForce, Lubbock County RACES, Lubbock County Emergency Management, and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Mobile Operations Vehicle Team are coming together for a weekend of radio, emergency communications, preparedness, training, and hands-on learning.
Winter Field Day is a nationwide amateur radio exercise that challenges operators to establish and maintain communications under conditions that more closely resemble those encountered during real emergencies. Here in Lubbock, we're turning it into something even bigger—a chance for the community to get involved.
No amateur radio license or previous experience is required.
Come out and:
- 📻 Get on the radio and make contacts with stations around the country.
- 🌎 See how Amateur Radio can provide regional, national, and worldwide communications.
- 📡 Learn about GMRS and how we're building a community communications network across the South Plains.
- 💻 See Winlink radio email and digital communications in action.
- 📱 Explore MeshCore and off-grid messaging.
- 🚨 Learn how volunteer communicators support emergency management and public safety.
- 🎓 Attend presentations and demonstrations throughout the event.
- 🤝 Meet the volunteers who are building communications capability right here in our community.
Whether you're an experienced amateur radio operator, a GMRS user, interested in emergency preparedness, curious about off-grid communications, or have never touched a radio before, you're invited.
Our goal isn't simply to make contacts.
It's to build people, skills, relationships, and communications capability before they're needed.
