Take your watercolor skills to the next level in this two-week photorealism workshop, where we’ll break down this dramatic winter landscape piece by piece. We’ll focus on creating realistic textures, convincing light and shadow, and those small details that bring a painting to life.
Week One: We’ll build the atmosphere and landscape, working in detail on creating dramatic clouds and glowing sun rays, a textured stone wall, snowy ground, and dry winter grasses. We’ll explore how light affects each element and how to create depth without losing the softness of watercolor.
Week Two: It’s all about the barn and reflection! We’ll work through creating the aged, rustic wood of the barn, adding dimension and weathered texture, then tackle the tree and mirrored reflection in the water. We’ll bring everything together with final shadows, highlights, and details to create a finished painting with a truly photorealistic feel.
This class is designed for painters who are ready to slow down, work in layers, and really dig into the techniques that make watercolor look remarkably realistic.
No previous watercolor experience is required. I go over every step and technique in detail throughout the workshop, so you’ll be guided through the entire painting from start to finish. However, Watercolor 101 or Intro to Watercolor is always recommended (though not necessary) before taking any workshop, especially if you’re brand new to watercolor.
