📍 Location: Martin Marietta Park, New Bern, NC (meet at the Canal Shelter to check in)
💲 Cost: Free to attend! A suggested donation of $20 per person is appreciated. All proceeds benefit Safe Paws Refuge. ❤️🐾
🎃 WHAT TO EXPECT:
🐕 A fun, relaxed group walk with fellow dog lovers
👻 Halloween costumes for dogs AND kids are encouraged!
🏆 A dog costume contest — first place wins a prize!
🐾 Winnabow K9 clients can use this as an opportunity to practice their training around other dogs and people in a controlled group setting.
🙋♀️ Have questions about your dog’s behavior or training? You’ll have the opportunity to ask me directly! I’m happy to answer questions and offer general guidance while we walk.
A quick note: This is a community walk, NOT a training class. We’re here to enjoy time with our dogs, get some fresh air, and support a wonderful cause. There will be no formal training or individual training sessions during the event.
🐾 PACK WALK RULES & SAFETY GUIDELINES
To help everyone have a safe and enjoyable experience, please review these rules before attending:
✅ All dogs must remain on a standard leash no longer than 6 feet for the entire event. No retractable leashes, please.
✅ No on-leash greetings between dogs. We want to respect each dog’s space and prevent unnecessary tension. Please don’t allow dogs to approach one another, even if they’re friendly.
✅ Give other dogs space. Keep a comfortable distance between your dog and others. If your dog needs extra room, please let us know or move to a more comfortable position within the group.
✅ Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Kids are welcome to participate, but an adult must remain responsible for handling and supervising their dog.
✅ Know your dog’s limits. If your dog becomes overwhelmed, stressed, or overly excited, feel free to hang back, take a break, or step away from the group.
✅ No dogs that cannot be safely managed in a group setting. This is a public community event, and everyone’s safety comes first.
✅ Please bring poop bags and clean up after your dog. Let’s leave the park just as beautiful as we found it!
✅ Bring water for your dog and dress comfortably for a morning outdoors.
✅ Please keep costumes safe and comfortable. Costumes should not restrict your dog’s movement, breathing, vision, or ability to walk safely. If your dog isn’t comfortable in a costume, no worries!
✅ Keep treats and toys to yourself. Avoid offering food or toys to other dogs, as these can create unnecessary tension.
❤️ WHY SAFE PAWS REFUGE MATTERS
Leaving an unsafe situation is difficult enough without having to worry about what will happen to your pets. Safe Paws Refuge exists to help bridge that gap by providing temporary care for pets while their people work toward safety and stability.
Your participation and donations help us work toward a future where no one has to choose between their own safety and the pets they love.
🐾 Come walk with us, meet other dog lovers, show off those costumes, and help make a difference!
📣 Please share this event with your friends, family, and fellow dog lovers. You don’t have to be a Winnabow K9 client to participate. We would love to see you there!
