Wines under Fire-Discover Ukraine
Date & Time: Saturday, 8 November at 18:30
Location: Buza Central, The Hague
About This Event
Did you know that Ukraine’s winemaking tradition spans over 2,500 years? Long before modern borders took shape, ancient Greek settlers planted the first vines along the sun-drenched shores of the Black Sea, establishing trade routes across the Mediterranean.
Today, Ukraine is experiencing a dynamic wine renaissance. Modern artisans are combining centuries of heritage with innovative techniques, bringing unique terroirs and rare indigenous grape varieties to the international stage.
Join us at Buza Central for an exclusive tasting session exploring 5 handpicked wines crafted from local and traditional grapes grown in three distinct winemaking regions:
- Odesa Region: Known for its maritime climate, mineral-rich soils, and iconic local creations like Odesa Black and Telti-Kuruk.
- The Black Sea Coast: Coastal vineyards where sea breezes and long sunny days shape vibrant, crisp whites and expressive reds.
- Zakarpattia (Transcarpathia): Nestled in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, famous for volcanic soils, high-altitude vineyards, and aromatic profiles.
What to Expect
- 5 Distinct Wines: A guided tasting of 5 wines made from authentic regional grape varieties.
- Guided Storytelling: Learn about the history, climate, and grape varieties behind each pour.
- Community & Atmosphere: A relaxed evening in the heart of The Hague to sip, learn, and connect.
Whether you are a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply curious to discover a hidden gem of European viticulture, this tasting offers a unique glass-by-glass exploration of Ukraine’s rich wine culture.
