About this Event
A day-trip from Berlin to one of Germany's best wine regions, Saale-Unstrut, in Saxon-Anhalt. Hike along the river to the historic town of Saale-Unstrut, visiting several wineries along the way.
Hike Distance: 15km
Difficulty: Intermediate
Walk along the Saale river, passing through the villages, vineyards, and traditional Straußwirtschaften (seasonal wine taverns). Starting in the historic town of Naumburg, the hike crosses the river and passes through classic, rural villages before ending in the salt-air spa town Bad Kösen.
The landscape along the Saale River is characterized by vineyards with steep terraces, centuries-old dry stone walls, and romantic vineyard cottages, with lots of flora and fauna and birdlife.
The hike stops off at two local wineries, where we will eat local food and sample some of the award-winning wines the area has to offer.
The tour will be led by travel author and guide Dan Cole, author of the leading hiking guide Weinwandern Deutschland. Dan has also worked previously for Lonely Planet, Easyjet Magazine, and has several published travel guides about Berlin and beyond.
