The duet is the core constellation of Contact Improvisation and will be a central base in this workshop. We love the clarity of relating to one person - being in dialogue, negotiating weight, direction and dynamics while hearts attune. It holds both simplicity and complexity, and we will dive deeply into the technical aspects of this form.
The mysterious web of satisfying jamming though needs more than that. Soloing and trios are the base for expanding beyond the common duet bubbles. Trios bring unpredictability, surprise and compositional challenges - the beauty of problem-solving in motion. There is a dynamic to trios that asks for calmness, ease and simplicity in order to let go into the openness. For decades I shied away from trios in my teaching. Now the desire for it is surfacing.
We’ll focus on the solo, duets and trios topic in the first half of the workshop and we want to see what’s emerging from what happened - or didn’t happen - in the first three days, during the second half of the workshop.
Each day will include a lab during which we can draw from the vast knowledge that many of the teachers and long term contacters bring to the space. How can we give feedback to support each other on our growing edges? While technical labs are always a great option, we’d like to also encourage more curiosity in how the solo body organises and establish soft skill labs that focus more on listening, emotional availability or courageous choice-making.

We, Joerg & Dino, are excited to invite you to another CI Summer Intensive in Berlin. More than in previous years, we want to tap into the collective knowledge and experience within the group, as many participants are teachers and long-term practitioners. We aim to shape this workshop in a more collaborative way, fostering a stronger sense of shared responsibility and self-efficacy.
We are interested in exploring formats that allow everyone to engage more actively beyond fixed roles, e.g. by contributing to daily CI labs, collaborating in the preparation and demonstration of material together with Joerg, or supporting one another through emotionally challenging moments. Our intention is to create a space where learning, teaching, and holding the process can be shared more fluidly.
Dino & Joerg
We have been on a shared journey with CI for over 20 years, during which a deep friendship has grown. In recent years, our focus has developed towards creating frameworks that support group cohesion, vulnerability, and personal growth within the practice of CI and we are interested in balancing detailed work with open structures that allow for rich and unpredictable dancing.
This year, we are curious about how to further soften hierarchies and open the space for more collective ownership - while still maintaining clarity, safety, and depth in the work.
