About this Event
Maps are the key to time travel, and this talk uses historic maps to show how Glasgow transformed itself from a small riverside town in 1600 to one of the world’s largest cities in 1900.
Maps do more than just trace physical growth, and we look at how Glasgow’s maps reflect civic pride, social concerns and the development of urban amenities. They also shed light on how Glaswegians saw themselves in centuries past – what mattered to them, and how did they want the world to view City?
Simon Morris writes and lectures on urban history and topography as relief from being a lawyer specialising in financial regulation. While a Londoner, he is a regular visitor to Glasgow and has long been fascinated by its history and growth.
