Join us for four days in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina during leaf season, where we'll step away from the busyness of everyday life, slow down, and immerse ourselves in the ancient art of willow basket weaving.
Willow Weaving Wisdom is an intimate mountain retreat that brings together traditional craftsmanship, meditation, creativity, nature, and community. Surrounded by the beauty of the mountains in autumn, we'll spend our days working with our hands, sharing nourishing meals, connecting with the natural world, and discovering the meditative rhythm of weaving.
Guided by experienced basket weaver and nature enthusiast Tyler Lavenberg and art therapist Ella Dufrene, you'll learn traditional willow-weaving techniques and create your own beautiful, functional basket to take home.
But this retreat is about more than learning a new craft. It's an invitation to slow down, reconnect with the natural world, develop meaningful relationships, and experience the simple joy of creating something beautiful with your own two hands.
No previous weaving or artistic experience is necessary. Just bring your curiosity, an openness to learning, and a willingness to embrace the process.
What You'll Experience
Traditional Willow Basket Weaving
Learn the foundations of willow basket weaving through hands-on instruction. Discover how to work with this beautiful natural material and create your own handcrafted basket to bring home. You'll have plenty of time to practice, ask questions, and develop your skills at your own pace.
Meditation & Mindfulness
Explore the meditative qualities of working with your hands. Through guided meditation, mindful movement, and creative reflection, we'll practice slowing down, cultivating presence, and finding moments of stillness in the creative process.
Connection to Nature
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains during autumn. We'll explore our relationship with the natural world and the seasonal rhythms that have inspired traditional crafts for generations.
Community & Shared Meals
Gather around the table for delicious, nourishing meals, meaningful conversations, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded people. Some of the most memorable moments of a retreat happen between activities, when we're simply enjoying one another's company.
