About this Event
Join us for a relaxed, hands-on workshop where you'll learn the timeless craft of willow weaving and create your own round basket to take home.
Working with sustainably sourced willow, you'll be guided step by step through the whole process, from weaving the base to shaping the sides using traditional randing. By the end of the day, you'll have a strong, practical basket that's the perfect size for kindling, wastepaper, knitting projects, or whatever you fancy. Just in time for the colder months ahead.
You'll also have the choice of finishing your basket with either traditional stick handles or integrated raised handles, giving it your own personal touch.
If you've woven before, there's plenty of scope to stretch yourself. Depending on your pace and confidence, we can explore additional weaving styles and techniques, allowing you to build on the basics while still working towards a finished basket. This could include but is not limited to, double randing, slewing, or zig zag weaves.
It's a calm, tactile day of making. A chance to slow down, work with your hands, and enjoy the simple rhythm of weaving in good company.
All materials are provided, along with tea, coffee and refreshments. Just bring a packed lunch, which you can enjoy out on the deck overlooking the beautiful Moray coast.
Willow weaving is very beginner-friendly, although it does require a reasonable amount of finger strength and dexterity. If you suffer from arthritis in your hands, this may not be the best session for you.
You'll head home with new skills, fresh inspiration, and a beautiful handmade basket that's both useful and made to last.
What's included:
- All willow, tools and materials
- Full tuition and plenty of one-to-one support
- Tea, coffee and refreshments
- Your completed round willow basket
No experience needed—just bring your hands and your curiosity.
