About this Event
Author Pierre-Olivier Ouellet and Montreal art historian Clarence Epstein discuss Montreal's pioneering Jewish artist William Raphael and his enduring influence on Canadian painting, with host Sara Angel.
Widely considered Canada’s first Jewish painter, Raphael navigated the cultural landscape of 19th-century Montreal and established a visual vocabulary that shaped the city’s cultural history. Ouellet's richly illustrated and meticulously researched book illuminates Raphael's pivotal role in Montreal's artistic identity and his groundbreaking career that documented late nineteenth-century Canada.
Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.
