Join Dr Kathryn A. Hardy Bernal for a fascinating exploration of Morris, his circle and the ideas that shaped the Arts and Crafts movement.
This session examines the relationship between industrialisation, design, craftsmanship and society, exploring Morris's reaction to the rapidly changing world around him and his belief in the importance of making, beauty and meaningful work.
We'll look beyond Morris himself to consider the wider cultural movement he helped inspire — and explore how ideas around craftsmanship, consumption and sustainability continue to resonate today.
Meet Dr Kathryn A. Hardy Bernal 🎤
Dr Kathryn A. Hardy Bernal, PhD, MPhil, B.A.Hist, is an art and cultural historian, critical theorist, academic researcher and publisher.
Her research interests span architecture, design, fashion, film, costume, urbanism, society, religion and psychoanalytical anthropology, with a particular interest in the arts and crafts movement and the relationship between design, technology and culture.
She has held various positions at leading tertiary institutions in Australia and New Zealand and has lectured in areas including art history, architecture, visual culture and design.
