Join us as we celebrate the work of Dr. Lindsay Chervinsky, presidential historian and Executive Director of the George Washington Presidential Library, through the presentation of the William Hickling Prescott Award for Excellence in Historical Writing. She joins Dr. Kathryn Lasdow, Director of Engagement at the Massachusetts Historical Society, for a conversation about the historian's writing process. Examining Chervinsky's published work, from the award-winning books Making the Presidency: John Adams and the Precedents that Forged the Republic and The Cabinet: George Washington and the Creation of an American Institution to the Substack newsletter, Imperfect Union, they will consider how Chervinsky approaches writing, whether for fellow historians or the broader public, and how the news cycle and current political landscape shape the way she balances past and present.
The William Hickling Prescott Award for Excellence in Historical Writing has been conferred biennially since 2014 by the Massachusetts Society of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA-MA). The award recognizes literary accomplishments and contributions in the field of historical writing. Past recipients include Stacy Schiff, Heather Cox Richardson, Joanne Freeman, and David Silverman.
