About this Event
The day begins in the classroom with an introduction to flowering plants. Students will examine specimens and will be shown the important parts required for plant identification and classification into families etc. Characters which provide short cuts to specific groups, and their particular habitats. How to find your way about an identification book will be discussed. Most of the remaining time will be spent around the nature reserve identifying flowering plants in the field.
By the end of the course it is expected that you will have a better understanding of the vegetative and floral parts of plants, their habitats (with a focus on chalk grassland species), and how to use these characters in keys.
Suitable for Beginners – no prior knowledge of subject
Led by Dr Clive Nuttman, PhD (Pollination Ecology), BSc Hons (Environmental Biology). Seven years volunteering at the course site.
