Discover the work of pioneering artists Georgia O’Keeffe and Rita Angus—two strong, independent women who pursued distinctive artistic visions and inspired generations of artists. Compare O’Keeffe’s dramatic close-up flowers and red-ochre New Mexico landscapes with the lush green hills and cloud-filled Canterbury scenes of Angus, including her iconic painting Cass.Across three weeks, you’ll learn about composition, colour blending and working with a limited palette. Experiment with charcoal, watercolour, soft pastels and oil pastels, using blending tools and incised marks to create different effects. In the final week, bring these techniques together in a mixed-media artwork inspired by one or both of these remarkable artists.
Suitable for all levels, including beginners. Maximum of 14 participants. All materials are provided for class use. You will get mixed-media and watercolour paper, artist-quality soft pastels, and oil pastels. The blending tools and some oil pastels are yours to keep.
