Ten years ago, Colonnade House opened its doors in the middle of Worthing with the simple idea of giving creative people affordable space to work, exhibit, meet, experiment and make things happen.
A decade later, that seems like an excellent excuse to make some wildly disproportionate claims about Worthing’s place in the cultural cosmos.
Why Worthing Is The Cultural Centre Of The Known Universe is a playful, celebratory and probably only occasionally evidence-based conversation about the extraordinary creative life of a changing town – the artists, musicians, designers, writers, performers, producers, venues, oddballs, instigators and ideas that are making Worthing what it is.
Hosted by Always Possible founder Richard Freeman, and 12-years Worthingite – we’ll bring together a brilliant collection of people who have helped shape Worthing’s cultural life to ask:
// What has changed in Worthing over the last ten years?
// Why does interesting creative stuff keep happening here?
// How do we do more of it?
// What role have places like Colonnade House played in making that possible?
// Is Worthing actually getting better at believing in itself?
// What should happen over the next ten years?
// And, most importantly, can we establish beyond reasonable doubt that London and Brighton are essentially suburbs of Worthing?
Expect stories, arguments, memories, unreasonable optimism and some celebration of the people who have made things happen.

The event marks 10 years of Colonnade House and celebrates the people, ideas and creative energy that have helped make it such an important part of Worthing’s cultural life.
