In her new book, Why We Ask Why, Lombrozo explores one of our most fundamental human habits: the drive to understand why things happen. From everyday questions about traffic and relationships to deeper questions about meaning and existence, our explanations shape how we learn, connect with others, and make sense of the world.
Drawing on psychology, philosophy, scientific research, and lively stories, Lombrozo will explore what makes an explanation satisfying, why we gravitate toward simple explanations, how explanations influence learning and decision-making, and how better explanations can help us create meaning and inspire change.

Tania Lombrozo is the Arthur W. Marks Professor of Psychology at Princeton University. She oversees the Concepts and Cognition Laboratory, which looks to understand the science that underpins cognition.
Iris Oved will join Dr. Lombrozo on-stage and is the Founder and Director of The Paradox Lab, a nonprofit organization in San Francisco that brings playful philosophical inquiry and critical thinking to kids and kids at heart. You can access her resources and join her mission at www.ParadoxLab.org.
Dr. Oved is also an active researcher in philosophy and cognitive science, with a focus on learning in humans and machines. She has found that explanation plays a key role in how humans learn to break up the world into categories, like CAT, WATER, TEACHER, and BOOK. She tests this idea by building computational models of toddlers that learn categories by playing with the objects around them.
