Join Whitefish Review for a free evening with acclaimed author David James Duncan on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 101 Central's Second Story in downtown Whitefish.
Gather for cocktails, music, and a thoughtful conversation about a life shaped by stories, rivers, and conservation activism. This special evening is Whitefish Review’s thank-you to the community for 19 years of support.
Duncan is the author of the beloved novels The River Why and The Brothers K, the story collection River Teeth, the nonfiction collection and National Book Award finalist My Story as Told by Water, the bestselling collection of “churchless sermons” God Laughs & Plays, and his latest novel, Sun House.
The Evening
7:00 PM — Cocktails & Music
Come early to mingle and explore books from Duncan’s body of work, available for purchase and signing.
7:30–8:30 PM — Opening Song, Reading & Conversation
Singer-songwriter Jo Smith, founder of Big Sky Troubadours, opens the program with a song. Duncan will then read selections from his books and join Whitefish Review founding editor Brian Schott for a conversation about his life and work.
Partners from The Flyfish Journal will also participate, with copies of the publication available to attendees.
Admission is free.
The event will also be broadcast live on Whitefish Review’s YouTube channel.
