About this Event
Local violin virtuoso and musical chameleon Victoria Yeh joins Whistlin' Pines for a night of original chamber jazz compositions by pianist Aaron Davis and guitar/mandolinist Joey Wright.
Whistlin' Pines:
Joey Wright is a mandolin and guitar player and composer whom Aaron met on the stage a few years ago when they were both playing with Neon Eagle at the Rex Hotel in Toronto. They discovered that in different eras they were both back-to-the-landers in Eastern Ontario and in fact Joey still is. They also discovered that they both liked to compose and improvise in multiple styles of music. Joey has released many of his own CDs and has played and recorded with a whole list of luminaries including Sarah Harmer.
Aaron Davis is a composer and pianist who is known for his work over the last 40 years with Holly Cole, with whom he still plays, and as a founding member of the worldbeat band Manteca. He's also released CDs of his own compositions and has scored many films. He has also worked extensively with singer Measha Brueggergosman and wrote "Zombie Blizzard", a song cycle using Margaret Atwood's poems for lyrics that he performs with her and a brass ensemble.
Eric Wright is a cellist most known for being part of the celtic/classical band "Fretless". He is unique in that he implies groove while bowing the cello. Aside from purveying his lyricism and groove on the cello he's also ranked internationally as a frisbee golfer. What th'..?
Mike Eckert would be at home among the upper echelons of pedal steel and dobro players in Nashville but we are lucky to have him here in Ontario! He leads a psychedelic jam band in Toronto called Neon Eagle, He records and plays with everybody on the Toronto scene and tours North America in a stadium country band.
