About this Event
Distillation was invented at least two separate times on the vast Asian continent, which gave rise to many popular local spirits. Yet there is no denying that Whiskey, as it grew out of Northern Europe, has captured the hearts and the imaginations of certain distillers consumers across Asia. From Japan, whose whiskey industry was the result of cultural exchange in the early 1900s, to India, where post-colonial yearning spurred a native grown tradition, to Taiwan, where the powers of global capitalism have given rise to new and popular producers.
In this class, Evan Christie will lead an exploration of the many whiskies of Asia. Expect mainly malt whiskies with influences from Scotland and beyond. Learn how historic and economic forces have shaped the state of whiskey in Asia and how the continent is posed for more growth and innovation. Taste the wonderful world of Asian whiskey with us today!
