About this Event
The Global Centre on Healthcare and Urbanisation Public Seminar series brings together members of the public, researchers and practitioners interested and engaged in urban health issues. The principal aim of the series is to provoke debate and constructive action, linking current best practice in urban development with emerging areas of health research.
As our lives become increasingly individualised, mobile and remote, what happens to the places that bring us together? From city streets to village pubs, our surroundings can foster belonging and mutual support or deepen isolation. Almost one in four UK adults report loneliness, particularly younger people. Economic pressures, housing insecurity, changing patterns of work and digital communication are reshaping our social connections. How can we design neighbourhoods, public spaces and services to strengthen community ties and social cohesion? Four speakers offer their perspectives and solutions, followed by audience discussion.
