About the film

Symbols of Resistance traces the Chican@ movement's roots in resistance to U.S occupation, racial discrimination, police violence, and the Vietnam War, and the FBI's COINTELPRO targeting of the communities and student activists who rose up. Centering the martyrs of the 1970s, including los seis de Boulder — six student activists killed in car bombings in Boulder, Colorado — the film reclaims a history of struggle connecting immigrant rights, Native American land rights, Puerto Rican independence, and African American civil rights — and how it continues to inform and strengthen organizing efforts today.
