About this Event
When Birth Takes a Different Path: Induction & Intervention
Birth doesn’t always unfold as expected. Understanding the options ahead of time can help you feel more prepared, ask questions and stay involved in decisions about your care.
Led by an experienced midwife, this practical class explores what happens when labour needs help to begin or extra support along the way.
What we’ll cover
- Why induction may be recommended and what alternatives may be available
- Common induction methods, including breaking your waters and an oxytocin drip
- Monitoring you and your baby during labour
- Why interventions may be offered and their benefits, risks and limitations
- Assisted birth with forceps or vacuum
- When a caesarean birth may be recommended
- Questions to ask when making decisions
- How your support person can help if plans change
You don’t need to have an induction planned to find this class useful. It’s an opportunity to understand what may happen and think through your preferences before you’re making decisions in labour.
Partners and support people are warmly welcome, and you’re equally welcome to attend on your own.
