About this Event

What’s Really in Wilmington’s Water?

Do you know what’s in your water—or whether your filter actually removes it?

Join Wilmington Clean Water for a practical, easy-to-understand conversation about PFAS and other Wilmington-area water concerns, along with the filtration options available for different homes, budgets, and living situations.

PFAS—sometimes called “forever chemicals”—have received significant attention in the Cape Fear region. We’ll explain what PFAS are, how they can get into water, and why not every water filter is designed or independently tested to reduce them.

This event is designed to help you become a more educated water consumer. You’ll learn how to read water-quality information, ask better questions, compare products, and look beyond marketing language to determine whether a filter has credible third-party testing showing that it can do what the company claims.

We’ll cover:

• PFAS and other concerns found in Wilmington-area municipal and well water
• How to determine which contaminants matter most for your household
• Why “filtered water” does not automatically mean PFAS has been reduced
• What to look for in PFAS-reduction testing and certifications
• The difference between whole-house, under-counter, countertop, pitcher, and other filtration options
• Solutions for homeowners, renters, apartments, dorms, and temporary living situations
• Product options at several different price points
• How to evaluate third-party testing, certifications, test reports, filter life, and replacement costs
• Questions every water-filtration company should be able to answer
• How to use AI to compare products and cut through confusing marketing claims
• Common mistakes people make when shopping for water filtration

Wilmington Clean Water has researched products across multiple categories and identified strong options based on the best available independent testing—not simply brand popularity or advertising.

We’ll also briefly discuss hydrogen water: what it is, how it differs from water filtration, and what to look for when comparing hydrogen-water products.

Bring your questions, information about your current filter, or a water-quality report if you have one. You’ll leave with practical tools you can use whether you’re considering a whole-house system, looking for an affordable pitcher or countertop option, or simply want to better understand your water.
