What's Your Relationship With Yourself? A discussion-based event
About this Event

What is your relationship to yourself? Friend? Lover? Supervisor? Partner? Caretaker? Hot frenemy? What do you want it to be?

We’ve done many workshops about your relationship to other people. In this one we will focus on your relationship to our favorite person: You.

Some things we might talk about: What kind of relationship do you have with yourself? What kind do you want to have? What parts of you don’t get along? When do you most love yourself? What most gets in the way of that? How does your relationship with yourself fit in with and impact your other relationships?

There will be a couple of hours of structured, facilitated conversion* and some interpersonal exercises (see note above), followed by hanging out and socializing. Our facilitators will help make it comfortable, but maybe not 𝘵𝘰𝘰 comfortable. Maybe, like, a little uncomfortable… but in a good way.⁣

*While this event will be centred around conversation, we sometimes also experiment with introducing some interpersonal exercises that are focused on feeling and presence too, which we might do in this one!

Some Things to Know:

Come early and stay late! Doors will open at 6:30pm, structured programming will go from 7pm-9pm, and we will stick around and hang out from 9pm-late.

This is a 2SLGBTQ+ friendly event. We welcome and encourage attendance from those whose gender and sexual identities and/or expressions are marginalized and whose experiences of intimacy in all its forms are underrepresented and often misrepresented.

We will be inviting you to talk with others, in small groups, about your personal experiences of intimacy, sex, love, friendship, and connection. You never have to share more than you are comfortable with in any conversation. We aim to make the space safe and comfortable, and expect that all attendees work to do the same for others and themselves.

There are no expert educators – we’re all working this out together and learning from each other. There *are* facilitators who are really good at making conversations like this interesting and exciting and not-horribly awkward (read more about our facilitators here).

Information on venue accessibility . If the cost of this event is a barrier for your attendance, please contact the organizers at [email protected] we are more than happy to work something out - we have both sliding scale and free tickets available.

About the Series:

This event is part of a new series of discussion-based workshops on intimacy in Toronto.

We all live with a set of expectations and norms that guide how we make sense of intimacy in its various forms, including sex, love, and friendship. They can often be invisible to us, even as they guide us. Taking time to look at the assumptions that may be going unnoticed can be really fun, potentially transformative, and a way to bond and get to know other people. We can reflect on the ways our relationships have been guided in the past, and maybe find ways to change them moving forward.

The possibilities of where and when we can talk about intimacy are often limited. We want to expand these possibilities by creating a different kind of space that fosters collaborative exploration, curiosity, and connection.
