About this Event
Major Lee Stuckey, USMC (Ret.), is a Purple Heart recipient, keynote speaker, and the founder and president of AHERO — America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors — a national 501(c)(3) that has served more than 13,000 veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and their families since 2010, and has helped prevent more than 600 losses to suicide.
A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Lee graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1998 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management from Auburn University, followed by two master’s degrees. He served 22 years in the United States Marine Corps as both an enlisted machine gunner and a logistics officer, deploying on three combat tours — beginning in Iraq in 2003, sustaining a traumatic brain injury from an improvised explosive device outside Fallujah in 2007, and returning to Mosul in 2009 attached to 3/1 Cavalry Regiment. He also deployed with 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines to Romania in 2014–2015 at the onset of the Russia–Ukraine conflict, and earlier deployed to Albania and Korea as an enlisted Marine. Lee retired in September 2021, having earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V,” Navy Achievement Medal, two Outstanding Volunteer Service Medals, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
He came home decorated and hollow. In August 2009, after years of hiding wounds nobody could see, Lee sat alone in a cabin on his family farm in Shorter, Alabama, with a pistol in one hand and a bottle in the other. His phone lit up. It was his mother. He answered, and that single phone call is the reason he is alive.
What followed was not a quick fix but a surrender. Lee got sober, got honest, and began rebuilding from the ground up — and he is the first to say that God did the rebuilding. On that same patch of ground, AHERO was born out of a late-night conversation on a screen porch with a fellow Marine who was hurting. The cabin where Lee nearly died now sits at the heart of AHERO Farm, where warriors from across the country come to find what he found: that they are not too far gone, and that God is not finished with them yet. Lee has since had the honor of baptizing men, women, and their children who came to the farm carrying more than they could hold.
A certified QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention instructor, Lee builds his message around the Four Pillars — Physical, Financial, Emotional, and Spiritual — with the spiritual pillar as the keystone that holds the other three in place. Under his Lee Stuckey Legacy brand, he delivers keynotes, leadership training, and resiliency retreats to faith-based, corporate, government, and nonprofit audiences nationwide. He is the founder of Habitat Heroes Outdoors and Hometown Heroes Services, co-founder of AHERO Records, and the author of the forthcoming book “You Cannot Pour From an Empty Vessel: How a Phone Call Saved My Life and a Framework Rebuilt It.”
Lee is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt with nearly 30 years on the mats, a former professional mixed martial arts fighter known as “Leatherneck,” and a BMI-affiliated country singer-songwriter. He serves on the Board of Directors of AHERO and of the Romanian American Mission, a Christian ministry serving Eastern Europe. He and his wife, Tamar Doull Stuckey — a retired German Armed Forces veteran and an Auburn University graduate in Wildlife Enterprise Management — operate a family farm in Shorter, Alabama.
