About this Event
Join interdisciplinary artist Ackeem Salmon for a special screening of What We Carry, an intimate evening of film, music, and conversation exploring the memories that shape Detroit's communities across generations.
Drawing from Still We Rise: Self-Portrait Detroit (2024), the film weaves together interviews, performances, and visual storytelling to examine how history lives within people, neighborhoods, and the everyday objects, sounds, and traditions we inherit. Through the voices of Detroit residents, the evening reflects on identity, resilience, belonging, and the stories we choose to carry forward.
Following the screening, stay for a community conversation with the artist, where audience members are invited to share their own reflections and engage in an open dialogue about memory, place, and the evolving story of Detroit.
Presented in collaboration with Mirrored Glass: Ensembles for the Collaborative Arts.
