What the Shepherds SawStep into the sound world of the Renaissance for an evening of exquisite choral music inspired by shepherds and angels.
At the heart of the programme is the beautiful Missa Pastores quidnam vidistis by Jacobus Clemens non Papa, its movements woven through a rich sequence of motets by some of the greatest composers of the 16th century. Victoria’s luminous Quem vidistis pastores and Guerrero’s Pastores loquebantur evoke the wonder of the shepherds at the manger, while works by Sweelinck, Hassler and Jacob van Vaet bring contrasting colours to this extraordinary musical tradition.
Sung by Kingfisher Chorale under Musical Director Giles Turner, What the Shepherds Saw is an evening of sublime Renaissance polyphony: intimate, radiant and full of the extraordinary beauty of voices singing together.
