Come find out!As part of Archaeology Month, join us at the historic Gridley Burying Ground, near 13 Kinsley Place in Canton.
Faculty and graduate students from the Fiske Center for Archaeological Research at UMass Boston will be conducting Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) research at the cemetery. This fascinating, non-invasive technology allows archaeologists to investigate what may lie beneath the surface without disturbing the ground.
Stop by and watch archaeology happening in real time! Meet the archaeologists, see the GPR equipment at work, and learn how this research may help us locate unmarked burials, buried headstones, and other clues to the cemetery’s history.
Members of the Canton Historical Society and the Canton Historical Commission will also be there to share the story of the site, its connection to Colonel Richard Gridley and his family, and our plans to better understand and preserve this remarkable piece of Canton’s colonial past.
