?️Screening of the Documentary: Been Rich All My Life
Been Rich All My Life is a 2005 documentary directed by Heather Lyn MacDonald. It follows the Silver Belles, a group of Black American women who were chorus dancers and entertainers during Harlem’s golden age in the 1930s and 1940s. Even in their 80s and 90s, they continued to perform, rehearse, and tap dance for audiences.
The film explores life in Harlem during the era of the Apollo Theater and the Cotton Club, where the women performed alongside legendary artists such as Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway. Through their stories, the documentary examines the racism and segregation they faced while touring and performing, as well as themes of aging, friendship, resilience, and the importance of maintaining purpose and passion throughout life.

? "What is Jazz" project:
It's a project that aims to explore exactly that question — what Jazz is and how it has shaped music, dance, and society at large. Rooted in the historical and cultural context of Jazz as an African American art form, the project also functions as an anti-racist educational initiative, highlighting the Black origins of Jazz and encouraging critical reflection on issues of cultural heritage, representation, and social justice.
Through open discussions, presentations, screenings and an evolving blog, the project invites everyone to participate, learn, and engage more deeply with Jazz not only as an artistic expression, but also as a living cultural practice connected to struggles for equality, community, and inclusion. Our blog serves as an accessible space for sharing research, reflections, and resources that support ongoing learning beyond the live events.
