In this session, Viktor will use audio recordings, video clips, and other resources to guide discussion about swing music to bring us closer to this amazing tradition and culture of music and dance.
All are welcome to gather at Hoppers Studio for tea and biscuits, music, and conversation.🍪☕️

🔸 "What is Jazz" project:
It's a project that aims to explore exactly that question — what Jazz is and how it has shaped music, dance, and society at large. Rooted in the historical and cultural context of Jazz as an African American art form, the project also functions as an anti-racist educational initiative, highlighting the Black origins of Jazz and encouraging critical reflection on issues of cultural heritage, representation, and social justice.
Through open discussions, presentations, screenings and an evolving blog, the project invites everyone to participate, learn, and engage more deeply with Jazz not only as an artistic expression, but also as a living cultural practice connected to struggles for equality, community, and inclusion. Our blog serves as an accessible space for sharing research, reflections, and resources that support ongoing learning beyond the live events.

🔹Viktor Lillard
Viktor Lillard hails from Ithaca, New York. As a teacher, Viktor aims to present dance as a holistic experience of Jazz music, with an emphasis on its historical and cultural context. As a result, he values tradition, authenticity, community, collaboration, musicality, and the joy of dance.
Viktor seeks to inspire curiosity and foster cultural awareness, while also helping students discover their own dance identity and authentic self-expression.
