About this Event
What does Long Beach mean to you? Is it the music, architecture, food, neighborhoods, people... or something else entirely?
Join Downtown Long Beach Design District Poet-in-Residence Mike Sonksen, aka Mike the Poet, for a walking and writing workshop exploring the places, stories, and experiences that make up the 562.
We’ll meet at the CSULB Immersive Design Research Lab @ Mosaic before heading out on a roughly 45-minute walk through the Downtown Long Beach Design District, taking in local architecture, public spaces, businesses, and neighborhood landmarks along the way. Mike will share observations and stories while inviting participants to think about their own relationship to Long Beach and what makes this city feel like home.
After the walk, we’ll return to IDRL for a short writing workshop, followed by an informal open mic where participants are invited to share what they’ve written.
No writing experience is necessary, just bring comfortable shoes, something to write with, and your own perspective on Long Beach.
