**Doors open at 10:30am in the Avis Sanctuary**For decades, the Palestinian people have faced Israeli occupation and systemic human rights abuses that constitute apartheid. As people of conscience and loving communities, we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their call for equal and full rights. Inspired by the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, we want to declare our own communities “Apartheid-Free.”
The Apartheid-Free campaign, originally launched by the American Friends Service Committee, has circulated a pledge with our own communities: our faith congregations, cities, campuses, and workplaces.
We need to educate ourselves and others about racist laws and state systems at home and abroad, and we want to ensure that our communities do not contribute to the maintenance of Apartheid regimes. Together, we can work to promote freedom, justice, and equality for all.
OUR SPEAKER: Meg Gonzalez (she/they) was raised Quaker in Southern Maryland, and is currently a member of the Friends Meeting of New Orleans. In 2019, Meg traveled to the West Bank of Palestine, Jerusalem, and Israel Proper to gain a deeper understanding of Israel's occupation of Palestine and hear from different perspectives on the ground. Since then, she has hosted several teach-ins at Quaker meetings about the daily realities of Palestinian people and the ways the United States funds the apartheid state. For the past three years she has organized with the New Orleans chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace.
