Welcome to the Whangārei to Whananaki Bikepacking Overnighter. Gather at Pohe Island Bike Park for an 8am start on Saturday 7th November.
This is an informal, self-supported bikepacking ride. Riders participate voluntarily and are responsible for their own decisions, navigation, equipment, fitness and wellbeing throughout the event.
The organiser provides a suggested route and overnight destination but does not provide guiding, support vehicles, mechanical assistance or rescue services. Riders may ride alone or with others, choose alternative routes or shortcuts, and may leave the event at any time.
This is a relaxed social bikepacking ride rather than a race. The aim is to enjoy good riding, good company and an overnight adventure. The longer course on Day 1 passes a number of shops and cafes at Ngunguru and Tutukaka. You should carry two bottles of water, snacks and lunch for the Day 1 short course and both Day 2 courses.
Please note the following:
• Participation is entirely voluntary.
• Every rider is responsible for their own safety and decisions.
• Riders must carry sufficient food, water, clothing and repair equipment.
• Riders should be capable of repairing punctures and basic mechanical problems.
• Riders should carry lights and navigation (GPS or map) and a fully charged mobile phone. Mobile coverage is incomplete in some areas.
• Riders are free to shorten, modify or leave the route at any stage.
• Ride within your own ability at all times.
• Helmets are compulsory.
The published route includes Grade 2 singletrack, gravel roads, forestry roads and public roads. Some sections of Glenbervie Forest may close without notice. If this occurs, riders must independently find an alternative legal route.
Please email the organiser - [email protected] before the ride with:
