Fundacja Stefana Gierowskiego zaprasza na wykład Azu Nwagbogu w przestrzeni wystawy „Wspólnota eteru: spotkanie kosmologii”.
Co ujawnia się, gdy spotykają się różne sposoby myślenia o świetle? Wystawa wyrasta z twórczości Stefana Gierowskiego i jego wieloletnich badań światła w obszarze malarstwa. Podczas wykładu Azu Nwagbogu - jeden z najbardziej wpływowych kuratorów w świecie sztuki – opowie o ideach, które połączyły prace współczesnych artystów i artystek w międzynarodowy dialog o świetle, percepcji i materii.

Azu Nwagbogu - kurator, założyciel i dyrektor fundacji African Artists’ Foundation (AAF), zrzeszającej artystów i artystki pochodzenia
afrykańskiego, oraz szef festiwalu LagosPhoto, a także redaktor naczelny magazynu „Art Base Africa”. Uhonorowany w 2021 roku tytułem „Kurator Roku” przez szacowne brytyjskie Royal Photographic Society oraz zaliczony przez magazyn „ArtReview” do grona stu najbardziej wpływowych postaci świata sztuki. W 2024 roku był kuratorem pawilonu Republiki Beninu na Biennale w Wenecji. W 2023 roku National Geographic Society włączyło go do prestiżowego grona swoich ambasadorów, nadając mu tytuł „Explorer at Large”.
Nwagbogu rozwinął metodę kuratorską, która opiera się na kreowaniu harmonii i synergii różnorodnych praktyk, pokoleń i tradycji materialnych, z których czerpie. Punktem wyjścia jego działań jest przekonanie, że istniejące struktury możemy przekształcać od wewnątrz – że inteligencja formy może podlegać przemianom bez konieczności niszczenia samej formy – i że praca kuratora w swojej istocie, na jej najgłębszym poziomie, jest aktem nieustannego, uważnego słuchania.

The Stefan Gierowski Foundation invites you to a lecture by Azu Nwagbogu, curator of the exhibition Aether Commons: Refracted Cosmologies.
What is revealed when different ways of thinking about light come together? The exhibition is rooted in the work of Stefan Gierowski and his long-standing exploration of light through painting. During the lecture, Azu Nwagbogu – one of the most influential curators in the art world – will discuss the ideas that brought together works by contemporary artists in an international dialogue on light, perception, and materiality.

Azu Nwagbogu - curator, founder and director of the African Artists; Foundation (AAF) and the LagosPhoto Festival, and the editor of Art Base Africa. Named Curator of the Year by the Royal Photographic Society (2021) and ranked among the one hundred most influential
figures in the international art world by ArtReview, Nwagbogu has developed a curatorial
practice rooted in the creation of harmony and synergy across practices, generations, and
material traditions. In 2024 he curated the inaugural Republic of Benin Pavilion at the Venice
Biennale. In 2023 he was named Explorer at Large by the National Geographic Society.
His practice proceeds from the conviction that existing structures can be transformed from within — that the intelligence of a form can be changed without destroying the form itself — and that the work of curation, at its deepest level, is an act of sustained, attentive listening.
