Welcome to our first ever Introduction to Volunteering Session for parents!
About this Event

Discover how volunteering can fit your life as a parent, boost your skills, help you get back into paid work (if you want to) and connect you with your community. Join our interactive session designed to help you find the perfect volunteer role for you!

What to Expect

  • Warm Welcome & Ice Breaker: Meet fellow participants, share your interests, and get energised for the session.
  • Explore Volunteering Opportunities: Learn about different roles, organisations, and the benefits of volunteering.
  • Training & Support: Find out about induction, ongoing training, and the support available to volunteers, especially for parents.
  • Personal Reflection: Take part in an exercise to identify your goals, interests, and lifestyle, helping you pinpoint your ideal volunteering opportunity.
  • Westminster Connects Platform Introduction: Get a guided tour of our volunteering platform and discover how to find and apply for roles.
  • Hear from Volunteers: Enjoy a presentation from a current volunteer or organisation—see what a day in their life looks like.
  • Interactive Group Activities: Work together on real-life case studies to design the ideal volunteer role for various scenarios.
  • Q&A and Drop-In Chat: Ask questions, get personalised advice, and book a one-on-one chat to explore roles that suit you.
  • Refreshments & Networking: Enjoy a break, chat with others, and share your experiences.

This training is hosted at Bessborough Family Hub, and you will also be able to hear more about how Family Hubs can support you and your family if you want to stay afterwards.

Session will take place at:

  • Bessborough Family Hub, 1 Bessborough Street, SW1V 2JD (in person only)
  • 10am – 12:30pm (entry from 9:30am)
  • 21st March 2026

You are welcome to bring your child; there will be facilitates at the centre including baby changing and toys.
