In 2013, after dancing West Coast Swing for 15 years, I had what I consider to be a perfect dance. It was exceptional because the dance that I attempted to lead was completely fulfilled by my partner Sophie Cazeneuve. Sophie and I had only danced a few times before together, but I found her method of following so connected that it felt like she could read my mind. The most amazing part was that the dance was recorded (see below). Of course, I felt it was just a lucky moment. However, years later, I had my second perfect dance with her again. So, it was her, not me. I feel so honored to have Sophie coming to Connecticut to teach some West Coast Swing workshops. Sophie is one of the top West Coast Swing dancers in the New York City area. Her experience in Ballroom, Salsa, and Hustle have made her West Coast Swing elegant and exceptionally smooth. She moved from France to New York City in 2010 and is currently one of the main West Coast Swing instructors in New York City.
SCHEDULE:
12:00-4:00pm - Private Lessons with Sophie
Please register for your private below. Your registration only covers the floor fee ($25). Once registered, arrangements will be made to pay Sophie for the private lesson directly ($125 for 45 min.).
3:45pm - Check-in and Arrival
Our doors open at 3:45pm. Please account for traffic to arrive early so that our classes can start on time. Light food and drinks will be available, and feel free to bring anything you like to our community table.
4:00pm - Build the Groove: Foundations in Motion (Adv. Beg.)
Great West Coast Swing starts with great fundamentals. This workshop focuses on creating cleaner connection, smoother movement, and better body organization through timing, stretch/compression, and grounded movement. The goal is to make your basics feel effortless, musical, and connected.
5:00pm - Play with the Beat: Timing Unleashed (Adv. Beg.)
West Coast Swing becomes truly fun when you stop just counting music and start interacting with it. In this workshop, dancers will explore playful timing variations, rhythm changes, and musical textures that make dancing feel more expressive while staying social-floor friendly and easy to apply.
6:00pm - Dinner Break
Food and beverages will be provided. Feel free to bring any contribution to our dinner table.
7:00pm - Shape Your Swing: Dance Like You Mean It (Adv. Beg.)
How you move matters just as much as the patterns you know. This workshop explores posture, movement quality, body lines, and natural styling to help dancers create a more fluid, confident, and visually dynamic dance without sacrificing comfort or connection.
8:00-11:00pm - Social Dance Night: West Coast Swing & More Dance Party
Dance for fun or try what you learned. You're going to have a great time!
