Peer into a Milo box and you will find tiny humans playing Malaysia’s favourite sport, badminton. Turn a capsule machine and out comes a floating durian. Then look into a miniature cable car and somewhere on a much larger screen, you watch yourself watching it.
From 6 November 2026 to 24 January 2027, Hong Kong artist Sim Chan brings his miniature theme park, The Infinite-land, to Galeri Filamen at GMBB Kuala Lumpur. Curated by Kobe Ko, the exhibition features 15 artworks that reimagine the world around us in miniature, finding humour in the habits, behaviours and realities we live in.
In Sim’s The Infinite-land, each artwork becomes an attraction and comes together as one unconventional theme park. Visitors peek through tiny windows, spot little humans caught in familiar situations or encounter mirrored spaces that seem to stretch endlessly. There are even claw and gachapon machines to try, and each admission comes with a coin to use inside the exhibition. The closer you look, the more this strange little wanderland begins to bear an uncanny resemblance to the world outside it.
First presented in Tainan in 2024, The Infinite-land made its Malaysian debut at Blank Canvas in Penang in 2025. The Tainan edition saw queues forming outside its intimate exhibition space, while its Penang run was extended beyond its original closing date. Kuala Lumpur marks the exhibition’s third iteration, with Sim turning his attention to a new city.
This time, Sim looks even closer at Malaysia, picking up on the everyday habits, festivals, and objects that make up life here and finding a place for them within the theme park. The Kuala Lumpur edition also sees Sim and Filamen collaborate on a new live projection work that turns visitors themselves into part of The Infinite-land.
Born and based in Hong Kong, Sim has spent much of his practice observing cities and the routines that unfold within them. Working across painting, sculpture and mixed media, he draws from nature, everyday life and contemporary issues, reconstructing scenes through miniature models, light, mechanical structures, found and recycled materials and mirrors. His mirrored interiors transform
physically small spaces into seemingly endless worlds, inviting viewers to peer through tiny openings and discover details hidden within.
