About this Event
Part of the Creative Quests Exhibition
What does a welcoming Croydon look and feel like? If North End Quarter were a landscape inspired by curiosity and 'Croydoness', what would it be made of?
Join us for a free, collaborative textile workshop inviting Croydon locals and visitors to contribute to a collective landscape mural celebrating the character, creativity and identity of Croydon.
Working together, we’ll create a large-scale textile mural inspired by you, using fabrics gathered from around Croydon - from market offcuts and old clothing to charity shop finds and materials with their own stories.
Through layering, stitching, collage and drawing, we'll bring together different perspectives, textures and ideas, capturing how the town centre feels today and imagining how it could feel in the future.
No creative experience needed — just bring your ideas and imagination!
Imogen Patel is a multidisciplinary artist based in London, originally from Hertfordshire. Her practice is increasingly centered on textiles, drawing on the cultural and material histories of Indian fabrics to explore themes of identity, belonging, and presence. Through her work, Imogen explores how textiles - particularly Sari - occupy space both physically and symbolically within diasporic communities, serving as a afor memory, resistance, and self-expression.
Alongside her studio practice, Imogen facilitates creative workshops that invite participants to engage with their own identities and heritage. These inclusive, reflective spaces emphasise storytelling, collaboration, and the power of creative expression to foster connection. Her commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion informs both her artistic and educational work, highlighting the transformative potential of art in shaping empathetic and innovative communities.
