WEIRD BLOOM* is the junk-shop and bubble gum project led by Luca Di Cataldo, alongside David Comanducci, Adriano Bartoccini, and Mattia Micalich, based in Rome. The project, founded in 2015 (previously known as Weird Black) while taking its first steps within the psych-pop realm, has released four albums to date: Hy Brazil (2016), Blisstonia (2018, distributed by Rough Trade East, Brick Lane), the acclaimed Stargate (2024), and their latest effort, Wrong Time, Wrong Place (2026).
The band’s signature sound features an eccentric use of saturated, tinny guitars, where Luca’s melodies ride over a wall of early '70s-inspired driving drum rhythms and rich harmonies. Their aesthetic direction and deep-rooted connection to junk-shop and bubble gum sounds ignited back in 2016, following a pivotal artistic encounter and exchange with L.A. legend Don Bolles (The Germs/Hammered Satin/ Ariel Pink).
