What happens when art comes off the wall and becomes something we wear?On Saturday 7 November, we’re welcoming WEAREART.studio and a new collection of hand-painted wearable art to the shop.
Founded in Copenhagen in 2022, WEAREART.studio is the creative practice of artist Petra Sparrebro. Having previously focused mainly on blazers and trench coats, Petra is now exploring streetwear — turning vintage caps, jeans and hoodies into art that moves through everyday life with us.
Expect bold brushstrokes and expressive figures she calls brain beings (brain beings represent the bravery of being bold & breakable while they remember that they will blossom yet agian) and other creatures of the WEAREART universe.
They bring what’s going on inside our heads onto the clothes we wear — the chaos, the vulnerability and the feelings we don’t always know how to explain.
Art can help us make sense of those feelings without having to put them into words. For the person making it, it can be a way to express and explore them. For the person looking, it can offer a moment of recognition or a feeling of being understood. Through clothing, that exchange becomes part of everyday life — something we can carry with us and share with the people we meet.
Maybe you’ll recognise yourself in one. Maybe someone else will too. That’s where the clothes become a conversation starter and a way to connect, making a little more room for our shared imperfections in a fashion world that so often asks us to hide them.
Come talk to Petra about art, mental health and sustainability, try on the pieces and drink some cold beers with us and celebrate this new collab 🫶
