About this Event
Join us for the opening reception of Weapons of Agency: Women Artists and Revolutionary Media, an exhibition featuring eight Southern California–based women of color artists: Dr. Patricia Jessup-Woodlin, Mary Harris, Dr. Maryam Trebeau, Denise Silva, Bonnie Gutierrez, Ida Tyus, Deborah McDuff-Williams, and Mariah Green. Working across a range of media, the artists draw inspiration from the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements. The exhibition also includes pieces from the curator's personal collection — among them, comic books featuring the first appearances of Black female heroines. Together, these materials trace how creativity is central to the fight for community empowerment and social change.
