Waypoint Escape: Newbury to Hungerford 15km Canal Hike + Pub Drinks (20s–40s)
Waypoint is London's close-knit, adventure-loving crew for like-minded legends (20's-40's). Big hikes, belly laughs, post-walk pints and pushing yourself a little further each time. 🥾🍻
This one is all about great company, beautiful scenery and a proper day outdoors.
We'll follow the Kennet & Avon Canal from Newbury to Hungerford, covering 15km of peaceful towpaths, historic locks and classic English countryside.
With almost entirely flat terrain, this is a brilliant social hike. Long enough to feel like a proper adventure, relaxed enough to spend the day chatting, meeting new people and soaking up the scenery.
And because no Waypoint adventure is complete without it, we'll finish in Hungerford for a few pints. 🍻

Meet The Crew: 11:15 | Newbury Station (10:36 London Paddington → 11:15 Newbury)
Hike Start: 11:30 sharp!
Distance: 15km
Walking time: Approximately 4 – 4½hours, including breaks
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Route: Point to Point from Newbury to Hungerford
Pub Finish: 16:00 - We’ll finish at John O'Gaunt Inn, for drinks by the canal
🥾 Meet Your Guides
Abi – A qualified Mountain Leader and weekend warrior who spends her time leading Waypoint Crew hikes, running women's adventure holidays and squeezing as much adventure as possible into weekends and annual leave.
Beth – Founder of Waypoint Crew, qualified Lowland Leader and Salomon Brand Ambassador. Beth has hiked everywhere from Everest Base Camp and Kilimanjaro to Patagonia and Machu Picchu, and loves helping more people discover the outdoors.
🕙 Detailed Schedule
11:15 | Meet The Crew at Newbury Station
We'll meet outside the station, say hello to new faces, and do a quick briefing before setting off.
11:30 | Hike Begins
Time to hit the trail. We'll leave Newbury and join the historic Kennet & Avon Canal, following peaceful towpaths through the Berkshire countryside.
13:30 | Lunch Stop
We'll stop for a relaxed lunch break beside the canal. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy one of the most scenic stretches of the route.
16:00 | Hungerford Pub Finish 🍻
We'll wrap up the hike in Hungerford and head to John O'Gaunt Inn, perfectly positioned beside the canal, for drinks, food and a well-earned pint with the crew.
