About this Event
Big questions. Bright ideas. One powerful conversation.
We flip the switch, charge our phones, turn up the heat and occasionally wonder why our electricity bills seem to have a mind of their own. But how often do we stop to think about where our electricity actually comes from, or where it’s headed?
With Ontario’s electricity needs evolving, the conversation about renewable energy, battery storage and the future of our power grid is becoming more important than ever.
And guess what? You don’t need to be an engineer to be part of it!
Join the Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-operative (OREC) and CAFES Ottawa, through the Thumbs Up for Renewable Energy campaign, for a free, engaging community workshop exploring the future of electricity and what it means for all of us.
What will we explore?
Where Does Our Energy Come From?
Follow the journey of electricity from generation to your home and discover how Ontario’s electricity system works.
Batteries: The Missing Piece of the Energy Puzzle?
Learn how battery energy storage systems (BESS) work, why they’re gaining attention and what they could mean for our communities.
What’s Next for Ontario’s Electricity Grid?
Explore changing electricity needs, emerging technologies and the opportunities and challenges shaping our energy future.
Power to the People: Why Community Energy Matters
Discover how community-owned renewable energy and local participation can help shape a cleaner, more collaborative energy future.
Thumbs Up for Renewable Energy!

What to expect
This isn’t your typical sit-and-listen workshop! Expect engaging presentations, opportunities to ask questions, community conversations and fresh perspectives on the energy issues affecting our region.
Whether you’re an energy enthusiast, a curious resident, a student, a local business owner or someone who simply wants to understand what’s happening behind the light switch, there’s a place for you.
No engineering degree required. Just bring your curiosity!
